Welcome to "Titan Blade"

Welcome to Titan Blade!

It's been close to eight months since the last update, but it's finally ready. After much thought, effort, and reconsiderations, the RPG once known as Armored Saber is in, what I'd consider to be, it's final form. Including a new name!

So let's get the important note out of the way:

Why the new name?

When I initially made Armored Saber, I was happy with it's name! It was totally fine, because it was evocative. It was everything I liked, invoking the imagery and ideas of games like Armored Core, or shows like Gundam. It was fine. I was happy. Leave it. It's fine.

... Except it wasn't fine. It hit just a LITTLE too close to home. Moreover, it had... Implications. It was similar to Lancer, or Armored Core, and those games made their mechs named after the name of the game. So if you were playing Armored Core, you were IN an Armored Core! But in Armored Saber? You were just a "Mecha". Nothing too crazy, but those implications had a bad habit of making people believe that the game had a pre-established setting. Something I even toyed with almost a year ago. But now, I believe that the beauty of the game is in it's universality. If you wanted to play and Armored Core RPG? You can use it! Wanna play a Gundam RPG? Go for it! With the new name, it's infinitely more unique, and searchable online!

What's new?

SO MUCH... But let's get to the big one: It's all one book now. As I said I'd do, Titan Blade is now one full RPG, all in one package. Everything inside is what you need t play. (Sans Character Sheet, more on that later.)

Because so much has changed, the game is now simply called the "Core Rules". It fits comfortably on 7 pages, has a proper credits section, and doesn't skimp on details. Including:

  • Chapters, ranging from I to IV.
  • Evocative, creative writing to begin each chapter.
  • An in-depth welcome section at the start.
  • Expanded resources and required materials, reflecting more choice and ideas.
  • An overview of gameplay, detailing simply what players can expect.
  • A new "Settings and Characters" section, detailing the intent of the game, and the lack of pre-established settings.
  • "Mecha Creation" and "Focus and Inspiration" sections added, giving more context on how to make a Mecha.
  • "How to Make a Mecha" section added, detailing how to simply make a Mecha.
  • "Additional Details" section added, offering more ways to fill out an index card sized sheet, in case you don't want to use a pre-established sheet.
  • "Phases of the Game" sections added, detailing gameplay in and out of Combat Encounters.
  • Details on how to handle combat quickly and easily.
  • "Strike" and "Shoot" actions no longer require weapon mods, removing the needless restriction on Shooting.
  • "Attack and Defense" section expanded, better explaining how attack and defense contests work.
  • "Level Up" section added, giving players rewards for beating missions, and ways to improve their Mecha at the end of each session.
  • Credits added, detailing tools and techniques used to make the rules.
  • Removed the Pilot section from the game, to possibly be reintroduced into the game in the future.

With all the above changes in mind, I'm still working out how I want to do the official character sheet. If you have any ideas or suggestions, let me know what you'd like to see!

As stated before, Titan Blade 1.2 represents, to me at least, the complete base game. Any additional content made will be introduced in later material, and will not be considered "Core" to the experience. Therefore, this will likely be the final update to the game. (Apart from obvious error correction, and if something turns out to be SUPER busted.)

Oh, and before I leave, I wanted to make one thing clear: If anyone wants to make content for the game, such as setting guides, new mods, systems, whatever, then you have my permission and consent to do so. And yes, I would be okay if you wanted to market said material, as long as the rules for the game remain free and accessable here.

And with that, the game is complete. Go. Play it! Enjoy!
